うる星やつら 完結篇
Directed by Satoshi Dezaki
Synopsis
The final battle in Tomobiki Town hinges on one simple phrase... A girl just wants to tell them "I love you", you know?
It seems that Lum's grandfather made an agreement that should he have a daughter, she would be married to a traveling merchant that he met. Now, the merchant has come to collect due. Ataru is tricked into thinking that Lum wants to leave, and so, in a moment of anger, says he hates her. Arguments erupt, and Lum decides that she must know the truth of Atarus feelings. As for all the questions of importance for the Onis, a game of tag begins, one that Ataru can win simply by telling Lum I Love You. However, in the end his pride may end up dooming him. So begins the series of events that will at long last decide the future and fate of Ataru and Lum.

I was going to give it a lower score but they just HAD to show that scene from the Christmas episode.

"I...I'LL NEVER FORGET!"
The proper conclusion to Urusei Yatsura, and I would say this movie is only fit to watch after you've seen all of the anime AND read all of the manga. Whereas the anime leaves off with a play of the Japanese folktale of Amaterasu hiding, the manga tells a shockingly intense final match-off between Lum and Ataru. Sometimes the animation and editing is lacking a bit, but the emotional weight of the story definitely carries. A very endearing film! I almost cried.

It gets a little too tied up in being a finale, so most of it can't get quite as bananas as it should be, but this is a pretty great way to wrap up a solid series. The ending itself is perfect.

Ataru says that he'll only say he loves Lum on his deathbed. The obvious solution is to kill Ataru

"I'll never forget!"
An unstoppable force (Lum) and an immovable object (Ataru) clash for the final time in this series finale. While The Final Chapter is easily the least outlandish Urusei Yatsura film, the dramatic stakes give it the punch it needs, and it ends up being a mostly satisfying conclusion to one of my favourite discoveries of 2021. My fear was that the series would gradually lose its identity and go out with a whimper, but The Final Chapter pushes through a lower budget and inconsistent character designs to be a bit of an emotional roller coaster, much to my surprise.
These movies are basically my argument for why originality doesn't matter, as the series itself is basically an…

urusei yatsura movies have one setup and its "separate lum and ataru for a mock-wedding and see where it goes". this one isn't exceptional but the last act is quite good. blonde bitches in (ostensibly) gothic lolita just always make me crazy

Review by Chad Smith ★★★★
I saw this one at an anime con at some point in the last ten years or so. There's a dude who brings some of his laserdisc collection every year and shows stuff, and I managed to catch this at one of those deals.
This one's supposed to be a relatively straight forward adaptation of the manga's ending, and while it's hardly some epic "everything was leading to this " sort of thing, it IS pretty in-character for Urusei Yatsura's wacky sitcom vibe. We get a couple of Takahashi's "when I'm bored I just make up a new character" peeps in the "antagonists" who hail from The World of Darkness. The prince from said world was betrothed Lum at an…

Can't say it's a good movie. But it had lots of Lum and the gang, and that's all I needed for the grand finale of this show.
Farewell, Lum! -
Review by Jack ★★★★
A satisfying conclusion, but I cant help but irrationally wish it went even further than it did. You can also sort of tell that the people working on it were different, with staff that (I think) worked on the OVAs rather than the showrunners who were behind movies 1-4. Doesn't make it bad, just different.
